The Fifteenth and the Last
Experimental International Film Festival
September 23-24, 2017
In 2002, Cinewest curators created an international film festival with the intention of lasting only for 20 years! This length of time allowed the curators to select works that are subject to no restrictions, rules and regulations such as; duration, date of production, and/or the country it represents to challenge already rigid structures practiced by mainstream film festivals from around the globe.
The curators acknowledged the difficulties in hosting screen events without funding and that’s why they estimated until 2022, to be able to host as many editions as possible with no financial support. In 2017, the festival has presented it’s 15th edition despite lack of funds but with unconditional support from the filmmakers and in-kind support from Sydney Olympic Park Authority, the festival managed to continue.
The curators would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude for the on-going support from the screen culture communities from Australia and around the world. We are very excited to be a part of Sydney Fringe Festival this year to represent Western Sydney showcasing over 50 short and feature length films from 30 countries at flEXiff 2017.
